One of England’s finest rugby schools, Sedbergh School is the latest world-class school unveiled for Schools rugby’s newest Cup competition.

First 2 Teams announced to play in the Open Trophy competition, with CompCare Rugby Travel Academy selecting a SA Invitation XV, and the Odyssey XV assembling a squad from across the world to play in Thailand.

The blockbuster line-up for the Cup competition at this year’s World Schools Festival continues with Sedbergh School from England now joining Grey College (South Africa), Millfield School (England), Hamilton Boys’ High School (New Zealand), and St Michael’s College, (Ireland).

Whilst Sedbergh School was founded in 1525, the Rugby Football Club was founded in 1879, and the legendary brown shirt has been worn by former England Captains, from as far back as 1920 with Wavell Wakefield, then John Spencer and one of England’s most successful captain’s, Will Carling. In recent years,  Will Greenwood, James Simpson Daniel, Bevan Rodd and Cameron Redpath, to name a few, have continued the tradition. The School has continued to produce top class players, and in the last 10 years more than 40 school boy Internationals have come through the rugby programme, and this Season has produced some outstanding results with 100% playing record.

One of the most eagerly awaited new schools rugby tournaments will be held for the first time at Pattana Sports Resort in Thailand between 12th – 17th December.

The international event which will feature 8 top schools from across the world competing in the Cup competition, with a 4 team Open Trophy competition being played alongside.

The first teams to be announced for the Open Trophy epitomize the vision of having some of the most promising schoolboy talent assembling at Pattana Sports Resort in December.

From South Africa, CompCare Rugby Travel Academy is the only full time programme of study in conjunction with a professional rugby programme in SA that focusses primarily on finding opportunities for young aspiring rugby players abroad.

The Festival promises to embody the true spirit of rugby, promoting the traditional values of the sport by gathering some of the most promising schoolboy talent the game has to offer, with plans in place to promote rugby in Thailand as well.
